February Outing report
Glamis Dunes
February 27 - 29, 2004 Fri. - Sun.
Report by: Scott Swanson
This off weekend trip to Glamis was over due and a pleasant surprise for all. It has been a while since ABA
has had an official trip to Glamis and we plan on having many more. We saw soft and hard sand in the dunes
after heavy rain earlier in the week. The weather was clear and sunny. We had a great time!
We arrived late Thursday night and camped at Wash #13 along the railroad tracks.
The Swanson's (Dave &Lorraine), Byrne's (Mike & Sonya) promptly set up camp before
calling it a night. Upon arriving at Glamis, there are ticket machines to purchase your camping
pass for a fee of $25.00. The pass is good for 7 days of continuous camping. It was the first
ATM/Ticket machine I've seen in the middle of the desert which asked if I wanted cash back. Amazing!!
Rick & Mary Jane Bates, Dave & Chris Bates, Christine & Nicolas Bates and the Bergs
arrived on Friday. We had lots of runs and relaxed in the warm sun throughout the weekend.
Mike Byrne did a nose plant/endo into a soft dune. He was taken to the Brawley hospital for
precautionary measures and was released with a minor concussion.
With the great turnout of Kids, we had a scavenger hunt on Saturday afternoon.
Out of thirty items on their list, Nicolas and Sarah Bates won first prize for
finding 26 of the 30 items. Brenda Berg and Justin Swanson came in a close second
with 25 of 30. Jody Berg and Kyle Berg brought in 21 of 30 and Madisyn Swanson and
Collin Byrne found 20 of 30. Sophia Swanson and Jack Bates were the gaming officials
to make sure nobody was cheating. After dinner, we enjoyed a warm camp fire,
handed out Scavenger Hunt prizes for all of the winners and had a cash raffle for the Adults.
On Sunday, we took off for a leisurely, semi traffic-free, drive home.

March outings
Garage Sale March 20 Saturday
The Garage sale was held at Wayne & Jill Berg's house, we started at 7:30am by 12:30pm 90% of everything was sold. No one would even stop to see what was left, because there was so few items, at 1:00pm we called it quits and picked up. The sale made $229.00 when it was all totaled up. This was a little short of the estimated $300 in the budget. Thanks to Barbara & Wolfgang Ludeking, Scott Swanson and the Bergs, these were the only families to donate stuff and work the sale.
Oceano Dunes (Pismo) March 23-25 Fri. - Sun.
Report by: Wayne Berg
We arrived Friday at about 4:00pm and could not find anyone near mile post 4, so we got on the cell phone and called Scott Swanson and found out that everybody was at mile post 6. We were the last to arrive Scott got there Thursday night and said it was raining. Friday the wind blew pretty hard, when we got there the wind had just started to settle down. We had a nice campfire fire Friday night. Saturday morning the there was only a little breeze, we had several runs throughout
the day. By nightfall it was perfectly still and fairly warm, we had a huge fire that night. Sunday morning we got up to a warm offshore breeze that brought out hundreds of lady bugs, the kids had a great time collecting the lady bugs for our garden. It was a perfect day to be at the beach we has another couple of runs before 10:00am. By 12:00 it was time to start pulling the stuck motor homes out, it was a easy once the snooty day use people moved their truck so we had a straight pull. the bergs were the last to leave at 2:00pm on Sunday, Rick & Judy stayed until Monday. It was another GREAT Oceano Dunes outing.
